Are Virtual U2 Concerts Even Better Than The Real Thing?

Tech-savvy superfans set up elaborate gigs starring their favorite band for online gamers.

You Only Live Twice

Here is the link for the on-line special for the Four Corners episode on Second Life, ‘You Only Live Twice’ >>CLICK HERE<< (have a look, this is a very impressive site with great content).

 A good overview.

Second Life is a 3D virtual world, people are setting up virtual shops for you to browse & purchase real world items, big corporations are setting up virtual offices for recruiting, PR & business purposes, IBM recently covered the tennis in real time for you to watch in world (logged in to 2nd Life).

It is a small application that you download & run from you PC via a high speed Internet connection.

The killer app is, that like a real shopping center, you have the potential to walk through & have your attention caught by secondary items, adding to the experience & potentially great ROI for the on-line malls, unlike current on-line shopping which offers a more focused, specific experience.

A lot of buzz, speculation & entrepreneurial vigour surrounds the on-line virtual 3D space.

The cool thing for capitalists is that your virtual dollars can be converted into real currency via the Linden dollarexchange & back again, that has been a big draw card for development, you also own your IP & can own virtual land.

There is even a virtual stock exchange.

Still very cutting edge, as per other emerging technologies, people are scrambling to understand it, control it, & monetise it. It seems to be the big gap in a few awaiting technologies (IPTV, internet TV).

There will no doubt be a spike in interest in OZ since the ABC airing.

I have an account, but as mentioned to some friends today, I am stuck nude in cyber space somewhere.

The server kept dropping out & my frustration levels went through the roof, still some work to do.

Should you see me, please don`t laugh! I know, I should of at least packed a scarf…
